Up In Smoke

Everyday on my way home from work I go under this overpass besside BC Place and the likes. Since I noticed over a month ago this homeless habitation created under the pass, I look at his "house" everyday. I'm pretty sure that I mentionned his home before, because I thought that it was pretty cool that he had house plants around. I though, "what a cool shelter!". So today I rode my bike for the first time in 10 days, and it was hard. But regardless of my heart racing and my sweating, I didn't forget to look for his house. As I passed his spot, my jaw dropped, and I was in shock. The hole thing had burned down. All that was left were burnt parts of what used to be a great shelter. It's pretty sad, I think, that this could have been only thing this person could call home or his/her own, and that it went up in flames. It's incredible how life can deal such difficult turns of events to people who already have it tough.

We're so lucky, and we forget that so easily. Shame on us.
